Staff therapist, LPC
(Pronouns: She/Her/Hers)
Hello! My name is Abbie McBride and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in working with teens and young adults. My special interests include ADHD, Anxiety, and navigating LGBTQIA+ identities.
Many clients come to me feeling "stuck" and out of control. It is my goal to walk with my clients as we find a way out of the dark. I aim to help my clients develop their self compassion, resilience, and overall satisfaction with life. By utilizing a strengths-based approach, my clients work toward meeting their goals and becoming their best self. From anxiety to ADHD, I am here to walk with you through each challenge you may face.
With my background in Gender Studies, I understand how each of our identities impacts our daily lives. I utilize a feminist, trauma-informed, inclusive therapeutic model to provide space for each of these intersectional identities. All parts of the self are valuable to the therapeutic space.
It is my belief that we are all capable of becoming aligned with our values and goals. I look forward to helping you along the way. I offer integrative and personalized therapy services to individuals, families, and couples.
Background:
I began my journey toward counseling at Trent University in Ontario, where I studied Psychology and Gender and Social Justice. Here, I grew my passion for integrating the whole, intersectional self into psychological frameworks. After graduating Honours, I began working as an Applied Behaviour Analyst for children with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. This was where I learned the value in holding space for people's raw self, and showing compassion for how difficult change can be.
I began working at Hartman Counseling + Consulting as a Masters student at Northwestern University. During my internship I honed my skills as a trauma-informed therapist. I grew my passion for evidence-based therapeutic models, and my interest in working with marginalized identities.
