Christian Raether
clinical Director, LCPC
(Pronouns: He/Him/His)
Hello! My name is Christian Raether and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and the Clinical Director in the Chicago office.
I have special interest and experience working with BIPOC, First-Generation Americans, and LGBTQIA+ living with trauma, depression, and anxiety and those navigating difficulties such as life transitions, substance use disorders, and relationship distress.
I believe that the foundation of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. The intersections of our identities influence the ways we navigate and experience the world. These experiences deserve to be honored with care, empathy, and understanding. In order to keep you and our therapeutic relationship at the forefront of treatment, I utilize a person-centered modality, integrating psychodynamics and behavioral modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We’ll work together to understand your narrative, values, and identity. My goal as your therapist is to create a collaborative, safe, and supportive environment for you to improve your mental health. In short, we’ll work together to find the best treatment for you.
I am accepting clients for individual and couples counseling.
Background
My interest in counseling began at Illinois State University where I received my Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Sociology. I dedicated my time to understanding relationship dynamics and attachment. I took what I learned in my undergrad to The Family Institute at Northwestern University, where I obtained my Masters of Arts in Counseling.
Before joining Hartman Counseling and Consulting, I completed my training as an individual therapist where I worked primarily with college students and other young adults. Next, at Turning Point Behavioral Healthcare Center, I provided treatment with a variety of individuals and families with diverse, intersecting identities ranging from the ages of six to fifty-five. At Turning Point, I primarily worked with BIPOC, First-Generation Americans, and LGBTQIA+ living with trauma, depression, and anxiety while navigating difficulties such as life transitions, substance use disorders, and relationship distress.
