Kate Bellingar, LCPC
STAFF THERAPIST
(Pronouns: She/Her/Hers)
I’m Kate Bellingar and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I specialize in working with kids K-8, teens, college students, and adults. I have experience helping people address complex trauma, post traumatic stress, relationship concerns, identity exploration, suicidality, self-harm, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and OCD. I also enjoy helping transplants, expats, and those experiencing life transitions navigate the process of change.
I believe that many of our patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving make sense given our context and experiences. I encourage clients to explore both their past and present in order to better understand which patterns work for them and which they’d like to adjust. By collaborating with clients, I help them to identify their strengths and build new skills and insights for managing life’s stressors. I also incorporate mindfulness and movement practices based on client need and interest.
I trust in each person’s potential for growth and innate ability to recover from adversity. I believe that change happens within a collaborative relationship in which clients feel understood, supported, and challenged. I use warmth, authenticity, and humor to build a trusting space for clients to reflect and grow.
Background
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Languages and Cultures with a minor in Spanish from Michigan State University. I lived in Beijing, China for three years, then decided to change careers. I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling from The Family Institute at Northwestern University. I completed an internship at The Center for Contextual Change in Chicago, where I received training in the Collaborate Change Model for treating complex trauma.
Before joining Hartman Counseling + Consulting, I worked with children, teens, and adults at Foundations Health and Wholeness, a non-profit mental health agency in Green Bay, Wisconsin. In that role, I also provided school-based mental health services to students in grades K-8 at Aldo Leopold Community School. Prior to Foundations, I worked with college students at Lawrence University, a liberal arts college in Appleton, Wisconsin.
I am formally trained in psychodynamic, systemic, and cognitive-behavioral therapies, as well as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (a culturally sensitive, client-centered approach inclusive of mind, body, and spirit for people with any or no spiritual or religious orientation) and Brainspotting.
